There is an increasingly growing need of more profound understanding of changes and processes in Bulgarian society and globalizing world on the background of ongoing institutional and value dynamism. Such a task is a great challenge and responsibility of those who enter the professional career of the sociologist.
Sociologists: Wanted and Rejected
It is not so easy to be a sociologist. Not easy at all, for - in order to claim studying the social reality - one needs to obtain profound theoretical competences, to be prepare to get below the surface, to attain diverse and complicated sociological research techniques. It is not easy, for it is common situation to get balanced on the edge between different political and economic powers and interests, and, at the same time, to hold up your professional integrity and to remain a detached social researcher.
However, it is so interesting to be sociologist. It is interesting, for sociology gives competences and abilities one to orientate oneself in the complexities and vicissitudes of contemporary life and to prognosticate social trends, to weight with people's opinion and influence on the fulfillment of policies and politics. It is interesting to be sociologist, for it is the smartest way to understand the plurality of social worlds we live in, and the potential ways of their unfolding. It is interesting and useful, for sociological knowledge gives control over one's own life as well as possibilities for adequate change of world we live in.
The Department of Sociology at ‘St. Kliment Ohridski' University of Sofia educates its students in bachelor, master and doctoral degrees.
